Number 1

There can only be one number one in the world, and their returns are outsize. There is only one winner of best and finals for properties, only one website on the top of page 1 of google. You are either 1 or everyone else.

How can you be number 1 in what you do?

A contrary statement to being number one is Scott Adams’ (creator of Dilbert) skill stack. Instead of being number 1, be the top 10% in 3 or 4 things. Since it is rare for anyone to combine these talents and skills you become number 1 in what you do.

I like to think I am in the top 10% in the following skills:
1) Underwriting – spent 8 years at GE Capital underwriting $750MM of loans for office, retail, industrial, multifamily properties all over Texas

2) Loan Origination – last 5 years at Old Capital originated $700MM of multifamily loans

3) Investing – last 5 years investing in over 25 properties totaling over 6,900 units

4) Marketing/advertising/organizing- successfully led charity events, lunch and learns, and large multifamily conferences

Combining these 4 skills, I feel unique and get to portray my authentic self. While other people might be better at one of these things, the combination of them is rare.

What are your skills that you can start stacking to be number 1 in the world at what you do?
